Thoughts of my Dog Princess

This morning I looked out of my sliding glass doors, as I do every morning, and was  surprised to see that it had rained during the night. Rain was not predicted, but is always welcome in southern California. Murrieta is a beautiful city, but sometimes the weather is unpredictable, It can rain on one side of the city, and not on the other.

I walked out to the patio, and sure enough the puddle that always forms at the end of my patio when it rains was there, and my thoughts were of Princess.

Princess was our beautiful six year old Shelti, who’s favorite thing to do was to drink, and play in puddles, when it rained.

When the vet told us that Princess had cancer, and only had a couple of months to live, I decided that I was going to spend as much time with her as I could doing fun things.

The day before Princess passed away was a very hot day, she was weak, and could barely walk, but she kept looking out the sliding glass doors, like she wanted to go outside. I thought to myself why not create a puddle for her, and make believe it rained, as this may be her last day. So that’s what I did. I got the water hose, and created a big puddle at the end of the patio like it had just rained. I brought her outside, and as soon as she saw the puddle, she walked over to it, took a drink, and layed herself down in the puddle. She was so happy, and so was I.

I believe that I will see Princess, and my other, dearly loved  pets, again in heaven one day Don’t you?

I wrote this poem called = Angel Dog= for all pet lovers.

Please tell me Lord, where do the animals go when they die?

Daddy says they they have no souls like him and I,

so how can they get to heaven when they die?

Yesterday a car hit my dog, but he died.

Now all I want to do is cry, and cry, and cry.

Why can’t my dog get to heaven Lord? Please tell me why?

Why doesn’t he have a soul like daddy and I.

Suddenly a bright light appeared in front of my bed.

\Out stepped an angel He smiled at me and said”

Please do not cry child, have no fear, your dog is with us in heaven,

and it is your love that has brought him here.

Tell me my child, why shouldn’t your dog be in heaven with us now?

I don’t know why people seem to think that animals are not allowed.”

My daddy says you need a soul to get to heaven, and animals do not have souls,

so how can they get there?

The angel said to me” Do rivers, and seas, mountains, and trees have souls?

What about the mansions that Jesus promised to human beings, do they have souls?

My child, Our Great Heavenly Father created animals, all, to be happy in this world, and in the next.

The requirement that is needed to get to heaven is to love, and be loved.

That is the key that allows us into eternity.

Your dog will be happy with his friends for now, don’t cry anymore,

Just take care of your pets, and love them even more than you did before.”

The light is gone, and so is the angel, I won’t cry anymore.
