Praying God’s grace before meals

Where does it come from when you sit down with your family and you say the prayer  that is called  -Grace.-?

Wikipedia says” The practice reflects the belief that humans should thank God who is the origin of everything.”

Praying before meals took place a long time ago when Jesus, and St Paul did it. It’s in the bible.

Luke 24; 30  = “When he, Jesus had seated himself with them to eat, he took bread, pronounced the blessing, then broke the bread and began to distribute it to them

.”Acts  27;-35  St Paul prays before eating ” When he had said this he took some bread, gave thanks to God before all of them, broke it and began to eat.”

There are many prayers of Grace we can say= I usually say the Catholic Blessing, or a spontaneous prayer.

“Bless us O Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Preceded  and followed by the sign of the cross.

I also love the Ecumenical Blessing, or Grace.

“We give you thanks for food and drinks and all that you provide, flowers, mountains, stars above, family by our side.

Grant that we might hear your voice and always be our guide.

From now until the end of time may we , in you abide. Amen”

I love this Grace especially for children to recite.

Thank you for the food we eat.

Thank you for the world so sweet.

Thank you for the birds that sing.

Thank you God for everything.

I have found that children love reciting this grace.
