National Day of Prayer May 3, 2018

Dr. Ronnie Floyd, President of = The National Day of Prayer = announced the theme for 2018 is = Pray for America  [Unity] Taken from Ephesians 4; 3 which says” Make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as its origin and Peace as it’s binding force.”

The National Day of Prayer is a day set aside when people of all faiths come together in prayer.

In 1775 the continental congress asked Colonists to pray when the country was being formed.

In 1952 President Truman made The National Day of Prayer an annual observance, which congress approved, stating” In times of national crisis when we are striving to strengthen the foundations of peace = We stand in need of Divine support.

Since then each year the President issues a proclamation designating The first Thursday in May As a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation, at church, in groups, and as individuals.

Today about two million people will attend observances across our country. We are very blessed indeed to be able to do this in our country.

As citizens and residents of the United States, and as believers in Christ Jesus we not only have a spiritual responsibility, but according to St Paul’s letter 1;Timothy=2-1-2 St Paul says ”First of all I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be offered for all men. Especially for kings, and in our case Presidents, and those in authority, that we may be able to lead undisturbed and tranquil lives in perfect piety and dignity. But we also have a civil duty to heed our Presidents call to pray for our nation, not just today but every day.

Scripture tells us again and again that our fervent prayer is effective. That our loving God responds to His Children’s earnest pleas in mighty ways that avail much, and ultimately determine the course of history.

On this day may our faiths enable us to sow the seeds of progress in our ever-changing world? Let us resolve to guide our Children, and Grandchildren to embrace freedom for all, to see God in everyone, and to remember that no matter what differences they may have, they just like we will always be united by their common humanity.

The power of prayer as quoted from the bible Galatians chap 3; 26-28

“ So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor gentile neither slave nor free nor is there male or female for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 4; 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of Peace.c
