I love angels, and they fascinate me, but I have many questions as to what part they play in our lives? What do they look like? What is their functions? Is it true that some are tiny as we picture cherubs to be, while others are large and strong like Saint Michael?
I looked in the bible for my answers.
The word angel comes from the Greek word Aggelos, which means – Messenger. Sometimes the bible uses the word for human beings.
Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the Old Testament, and 165 times in the New Testament.
Scripture speaks of the creation of angels
Psalm 148: 2-5 “ Praise Him all you His angels.
Matthew 27: 53 “Do you not suppose I can call on my Father to provide at a moments notice more than twelve legions of angels?
Angels can take on the appearance of men when the occasion demands. Hebrews 13: 2 “ How else could some entertain angels unaware.
Matthew 28: 2-4 “Sometimes they appeared in dazzling white and blazing glory.
In Genesis 18: Abraham welcomed three angelic guests who appeared as travellers.”
Matthew 28 -3 “ The angel that rolled back the stone from Jesus’s tomb was radiating dazzling light.
Daniel 10: 5-6 “ Saw an angel with arms, and legs resembling polished metal, and precious stones.”
Matthew 18: 10 “ See that you never despise one of these little ones. I assure you, their angels in heaven constantly behold my Father’s face.”
Angels work for God, ultimate benefit of mankind.
Genesis: 3 – 24 The Cherubim guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis: 19 1- 22 two angels saved Lot and his family.
Psalms 91: 11 for he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
John: 2-51 He went on to tell them. “ I solemnly assure you, you shall see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the son of man.
Luke 22: 42-43 Father if it is your will, take this cup from me, yet not my will but yours be done. An angel then appeared to him from heaven to strengthen him.
Angels are messengers
Luke I: 26-38 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. Upon arriving, the angel said to her” Rejoice O highly favored daughter. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.” She was deeply troubled by his words, and wondered what his greeting meant. The angel went on to say to her” Do not fear Mary you have found favor with God. You shall conceive and bear a Son and give him the name Jesus. Great will be his dignity and he will be called son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father. He will rule over the house of Jacob forever and his reign will be without end. Mary said to the angel,” how can this be since I do not know man?” The angel answered her,” The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, hence, the holy offspring to be born will be called son of God. Know that Elizabeth your kinswomen has conceived a son in her old age. She who was thought to be sterile is now in her sixth month, for nothing is impossible with God.” Mary said” I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say.” With that the angel left her.
My special Angel – Poem
Angels, angels everywhere,
They are here, and they are there.
They can fly anywhere,
My special angels.
God has given them to me,
There they go—one, two, three.
I’m as happy as can be,
With my special angels.
Angels, angels, everywhere,
They are here, and they are there,
They can fly anywhere,
My special angels.
They teach me to be good
as a child of God should.
I love them, and they love me.
We’re as happy as can be.
Angels, angels everywhere,
They are here, and they are there.
They can fly anywhere,
My special angels.
